Just a short post today as I celebrate my birthday. It’s a milestone.
I feel such a spectrum of emotions as I reflect upon the first 50 years of my life and give ‘birth’ to this new website and adventure. If I had to use only one word to convey it all, I would choose: GRATEFUL.
One of the things I’m grateful for is that I finally started focusing on nurturing and advocating for my own needs and wants. It’s hard shifting one’s raison-d’etre from serving others’ needs first all the time to a healthy and fulfilling balance.
It’s not selfish to take care of your wants and needs and to invest in your creative endeavor or life ambition. If you’ve convinced yourself it is, it could be Resistance having its insidious way with you:
Creative work is not a selfish act or a bid for attention on the part of the actor. It’s a gift to the world and every being in it. Don’t cheat us of your contribution. Give us what you’ve got.
I highly recommend you pick up a copy of Steven Pressfield’s book, War of Art. But only if you’re ready to fight that Resistance that’s been ‘convincing you’ of untruths and stopping you from living to your fullest potential.
If you had to choose just one tiny, powerful word to sum up your life thus far, what would that word be?
Give us what you’ve got.

Awesome
:)
If I had to choose one word, to sum my life so far, even with the challenges that I’ve been facing recently, it would be AMAZING. Like you, I turned 50 this past September, and I’m looking forward to what is in store for me, in the next half of my life.
Deb, I really like the way you see challenges. I always liked this quote (not sure who wrote it):
“Challenges make you discover things about yourself that you never really knew. They’re what make the instrument stretch-what make you go beyond the norm.”
One word to sum my life so far would be challenging. I mean it in a good way. Challenges keep us on our toes.
I think the way you handle your challenges will benefit a lot more people than just yourself, Johanna.
If I had to choose just one tiny, powerful word to sum up my life thus far, that word would be CONTENT.
